Patient Information

Ultrasound is a safe, painless and radiation-free imaging method that is used to view and provide real-time information about internal parts of the body. Ultrasound technology has an excellent long-term safety record when used by licensed professionals.

Because ultrasound is cost-effective and readily available, it is often the first step for diagnostic testing when presenting with abdominal, pelvic or musculoskeletal pain. The images can provide valuable information for diagnosing and directing treatment for a variety of diseases and conditions.

Ultrasound is used extensively throughout pregnancy and can be useful in assessing many organs and superficial parts, as well as vascular structures including veins and arteries.

At Mid North Imaging, we provide an extensive range of ultrasounds using state-of-the-art machinery operated by our highly skilled sonographer, with close support from our specialist radiologist.

FAQ's

We’re committed to providing comprehensive and accurate reports to all referring GPs, allied health professionals and specialists.

We aim for a fast turnaround with our specialist radiologist team, who interpret and report directly to the referrer on each ultrasound. Attend a follow-up appointment with your medical professional to discuss your results.

After your 3D/4D pregnancy scan, you will receive photos and videos directly to your phone.

You’ll need:

  • Referral form from your GP, specialist or allied health professional
  • Medicare card, and any pension or concession card
  • Workcover details if the ultrasound is part of a Workcover claim

For 3D/4D and gender reveal scans, you don’t need a referral, as these aren’t diagnostic scans.

Some scans, like ultrasounds of the abdomen, require a 6-hour fast beforehand, and others require a full bladder. Please refer to your referral form for any specific preparation instructions.

It is advisable to wear loose, comfortable clothing for your ultrasound examination. At Mid North Imaging, your well-being is our top priority. We are dedicated to creating a welcoming, stress-free environment where you feel relaxed and cared for every step of the way.

Yes, we do. At Mid North Imaging, we take pride in providing a stress-free, comfortable environment for children undergoing ultrasound exams. Our team is experienced in performing most paediatric ultrasounds. However, certain specialised scans—such as paediatric hip ultrasounds and pyloric stenosis studies—are best performed in facilities with an on-site radiologist. In these cases, we may recommend referral to a centre equipped for those specific examinations.
